David has almost 20 years of food experience in retail, manufacturing, distribution and food service, joining Publix Supermarkets in 2001. Since 2008, he has held positions within Corporate Quality Assurance, including his current role as the senior food safety manager where he is, responsible for developing corporate food safety strategies, validating existing food safety systems across eleven manufacturing facilities and over thirty distribution centers, and serving as the subject matter expert for animal well-being, food safety and quality matters related to manufacturing and distribution.
Beginning in 2009, David oversaw the implementation of the SQF program within Publix Manufacturing’s bakeries, dairies, deli’s and produce packing operations, and continues to support their recertification efforts today. He also served as a member of SQF’s Technical Advisory Council. His certifications include: Certified Food Scientist (2014), Institute of Food Technologists; Certified Professional – Food Safety (2011), National Environmental Health Association; Certified Food Safety Manager (since 2005), Safe MarkTM; HACCP certificate (2003), International HACCP Alliance (Seafood HACCP, 2008), Association of Food and Drug Officials; and Seafood HACCP – Train the Trainer (2010), Association of Food and Drug Officials.
David is also trained as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) Lead Instructor. He is a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, International Association of Food Protection, the SQF Technical Committee for Food Wholesaling and Distribution, and the Florida Section of the Institute of Food Technologists (Chair, 2012). David was also awarded the SQF Practitioner of the year award in 2018.
