Science as a Tool to Address Animal Welfare
Karen serves as the Sr. Director of Animal Welfare for Tyson Foods. She has had a long career in the broiler industry with experience as a broiler manager, live production manager and Director of Technical Services. Before her position at Tyson Foods, she served on the faculty of the University of Arkansas, Center of Excellence in Poultry Science and enjoyed sharing her interest in broiler welfare and production with students. As part of her duties at Tyson, she leads a dedicated team who are passionate about welfare, and leads the research at the recently completed Tyson Center for Sustainable Welfare Research, a facility dedicated to broiler welfare. Karen received her BS and MS at Washington State University and her PhD in poultry physiology at Mississippi State University.
